February 2024 Update
We're back here already? February is so short, I wasn't ready! But I do have a bunch of art to share with you so let's get on with it.
After noodling around with a bit of still life last year I gave it more focus this month and have these three lil canvases to show for it! This top down view really appeals to me and my little collection of fake fruit is finally getting the attention it deserves. I definitely want to do more still life this year so I've made them their own gallery, click the trio for a closer look.
I added a couple more A3 portraits to the collection, one on canvas and one on paper and both very different. But both indicators of portraits I want to work on later in the year so keep them in mind.
OK, this is the biggie from February. I completed the first of four 60x90cm self-portraits for a new series that I'm calling Threadbare. They'll be collected here in the Threadbare gallery if you want to read a bit of an intro for the series. But I'm pleased with this start and am actually twitching to start the next one.
I've continued my new habit of doing a bunch of little A6 paintings, click this composite of them to see their gallery. I've been doing this throughout winter and it's really satisfying to flick through the growing pile of them and remember all the colour and texture combos I have at my fingertips.
I've wanted a smaller sketchbook that's even easier to work in, specifically in bed during bad health days and here it is! The square size is great and I mostly use it with a full pan of my favourite watercolour, some water brushes and a cup of random pens. So I can enjoy pushing paint around and just making pretty pictures when I don't feel up to anything more adventurous. Click the composite of my pages so far to go to the sketchbook's own wee gallery.
I've updated the Hybrid 2024 gallery, you can click the image below to go see the whole thing. This is where I've been experimenting with watercolour over an acrylic base and has definitely set ideas percolating for landscapes to paint later in the year.
I also continued to work in my A3 mixed-media-messing-around sketchbook. You can see there's a couple of studies for Threadbare 01 and those still life paintings in here as well some print bits from a session I led for Galashiels Studio Club. Click the composite image to go to this sketchbook's dedicated gallery.
I'm still working happily in my A4 sketchbook dedicated to fun little illustrations and illustrations. This one is living on my sofa with a pile of markers and pencils and is conveniently hardback so I can also balance my drink on it! Click the image to go see the whole sketchbook so far.
That's me done for February, hopefully March will feature Threadbare 02 and more sketchbooking. Maybe a little bit of sunshine? I believe! If March update is already up I'll link it below, otherwise have a good month!
