August 2024 Journal Update
Well, that's August 2024 100% completed. I just had my last bath of the month and am typing this while I wait for my hair to dry enough so I can go to bed early. Usual wild weekend! I will be watching a horror film while tucked in if that makes it marginally more rock and roll!
On with this month's art offerings, starting with the August mini landscapes. They're mostly acrylic paint alongside some pots of custom gouache colours that I mixed up myself with a 1 AM burst of energy. Click on the composite below to go have a proper look at all 20 of them.
Next is this month's A3 portrait, a routine I'm finding helpful to keep my portraiture skills toasty while I'm experimenting with other things. This one was mostly watercolour and acrylic ink on gessoed paper as I'm still in love with the way watercolour pools on the less absorbent surface.
Another 1 AM burst of energy led to a week of making hand painted, hand cut stickers?! I dunno, brain says GO GO GO and I obey. They're just sheets of sticker paper with layers of acrylic paint but it was so satisfying to put these little sticker nuggets together. Also, the collage potential! In fact, these sticker sheets and the off cuts were used in my next August obsession...
So under the title 'Scope' I've been making these funky paintings, taking old frames and layering them with gesso and paint with added texture scratched in. Then I emphasize the texture with areas of acrylic ink and add smooth sticker paper shapes for contrast. So colourful, so fun, I want to do so much more! Click the composite below to take a closer look at them in their own wee gallery.
Amongst all the stickers and funked up frames I also pottered about in my Fox and Willow sketchbook because nothing is nicer that watercolour painting while it rains on the window and it has been a very soggy August. Click the image to see how this sketchbook is coming along.
And that's your lot! Reminder: one of my Sellisternian paintings is displayed as part of this show in Peebles until mid October. I'll be back at the end of September for the next monthly recap and as usual I'll link it below when it's up.
