September 2024 Journal Update
I think this every time I sit down to write these updates but SERIOUSLY, where did the month go?! I guess summer is over? My window is slate grey and spotted with rain right now so I guess it is. In contrast I have an especially bright and yellow line up of work to share with you so please enjoy my September line-up!
Starting as usual with a set of A6 landscape postcard paintings and you can see them individually here in their dedicated gallery. I still love making these, they are a perfect way to warm up for the month and keep my landscape brain engaged while I'm focusing on other things.
I'm also still doing at least one portrait a month to keep that eye in even while it's not my current focus. I definitely want to go back to portraits in 2025 (!!!) so this is important to keep sharp and you can see this new addition alongside the others in the faces gallery.
I've continued to experiment with transforming old frames in to what I'm calling 'Scopes' and enjoying the new surfaces, textures and colours I get. These are four smaller experiments with acrylic paint and ink and my handmade acrylic sticker papers. These have been added here to the Scopes gallery.
I also made this larger Scope by using what I'd discovered in more of an actual composition and I love it! My camera phone really can't capture how the layers of colour interact or the textured surface but it looks really bright and joyful up on the wall.
I'm continuing to push my still life work and especially the transparency and blurring of lines between object and environment. With that in mind I made these four fruity 20x20cm canvas boards, little studies with a view to a future larger piece. You can see them individually over at the Still Life gallery.
I'm still messing around in this watercolour sketchbook and watercolour painting continues to be the most relaxing way to work for me. It's so nice to see the colours and textures develop on the page and then have the freedom to go back after drying with some mixed media nonsense. Still nature inspired, as you can see, with my funky still life thoughts also peeking through. See this sketchbook in-progress in it's gallery here.
That's your lot for September 2024! Studio Club starts again this month so I need to have a shuffle around my art space and get organised for that...with plenty coffee breaks. I'll be back with another update at the end of October, I'll link that below when I do.
